Editor’s Note: For those who might be new to this blog, and/or just forgot, “Steve” refers to a stroke that occurred to me.
I fully returned to work last week. I survived! I had been out since June 2021 and I came back part-time back in January 2022. I had planned to post this Friday, but I was wiped! (Is should add that I’ve been working most of this weekend catching up too.) It feels as if I really was out for than a year. Spring 2021 was marked by COVID as many kids stayed home when we went to in-person learning. Additionally my junior college gig stayed, and to my knowledge it is still, in distance learning, so this all made me feel that I hadn’t really taught for over a year.
This time last year my days were full of occupational therapy, speech therapy, and boredom. I’m not lamenting, quite the opposite. The therapies allowed me to get where I am and the boredom made take needed naps for rest. It has been great getting back to the classroom; the classroom is my element.
Actually teaching again makes me keenly aware of how Steve affected me but also how much I’ve progressed following meeting Steve. All I could do about teaching prior to last week was speculate if I could still teach. Now I know I can do it and more importantly I’m learning how to adapt.
Steve who?
