Of Questionable Connections and Bad Dreams

Well, that’s interesting. Among the ongoing chronicles of insomnia and various attempted remedies, bread and honey, milk, Maalox, etc. I read that apparently one of my distant relatives is related to Marshal Joseph Jacques Césaire Joffre. Marshal Joffre was a French general who served as Commander-in-Chief of French forces on the Western Front from the start of World War I until the end of 1916. I wonder if that connection is true.

The 1908 journal has a gap in entries until April, so for now another entry from 1969:

Wow, seems like he had some very vivid and disturbing dreams, I wonder where the ‘bad neighborhood part of town’ was. I wonder how briskly the man that was following him was walking and I really want to know what the “terrible old ‘hag’” looked like. I’m not much of a dream analyst but clearly Poppa had concerns about avoiding poverty and being harassed by pan handlers.
