Seems like Feb. 7 -10, 1969, were some good days for Poppa. A family gathering for a combined recognition of my grandmothers 79th birthday, and my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary on the 7th, then an honor bestowed on Poppa by his church on the 9th. I have to say, wow, a member of the same church for 57 years? And Mimi taught Sunday School for 63 years? Wait, that means she started at 16. Is his recollection wrong, or was that not unusual back then? He was obviously proud to have her with him when he received his honor from the church and enjoyed sharing that pride with the congregation via a smooch accompanied by claps and laughter. And again with the Prissy, I’ll have ask my cousin about that.
Feb. 10, Poppa is appreciating his new pen which was apparently a 50th wedding anniversary gift. He notes the pen automatically displays the date, or at least that’s what I surmise, but it seems to have the wrong date! I can’t read the annotations in the margins and that is not just because of the bad scan, I can’t read the hard copy either. Speaking of not being able to read some things I don’t recall if I mentioned yesterday that I can’t make out what he wrote at the top of the Feb. 8 page for 1908. Sound like Tuesday was garbage day and interesting that he burned the paper trash. The notation of the “many” empty bottles is not a shock nor is the reference to his sons “partying” both notes remind me of our family reunions; much carousing and cavorting as each of the five brothers vied for center stage.

Albuen? I think he meant ‘albumen’ because Google says ‘Albuen’ is an island in Denmark. I’m pretty sure Poppa wasn’t learning about Danish islands in 1908.

Speaking of 1908, if his recollection of the length of time Mimi taught Sunday School is correct, she would have been in her second year of that endeavor.
