A while ago I set out to read and write about two of my grandfathers journals, one from 1969 and one from 1908. My first go round I made it one month. My second go round I made one post. Third time’s the charm?

This certainly makes my foray back into this venture easier! Not much going on these two days in ’69. Wonder what was going on in 1908?

I should probably re-explain that this journal appears to be what he used as a notebook in high school, so the entries might not have been made on the actual dates; unless these entries represent homework of some sort. Also the book was apparently published as a promotion(?) of some sort for ‘Pepto-Mangan’ which, among other things, is apparently good for treating, “…typhoid and scarlet fevers, diptheria, etc.,” Um, what could the “etc.” possibly be? Nothing good I’m guessing. For reference:
Reading Feb. 1 I like how he wrote “So called” above “Physical basis for life” as I think it reflects his deep religious convictions. I also enjoy noticing that he has trouble spelling, ‘jeletine substence’, as my dad did too!
I like how both journals note the number of days that have passed and those yet to come. I, like you, certainly hope the entries get more interesting, but should they? I mean, aren’t journals just records of a persons day to day life? Their comings, goings and doing’s? Who am I to expect the entries to be interesting to me, or anyone else for that matter? Well, whatever my grandfathers purpose was in writing these journals I’m getting a kick out of them because I never really knew him and their 60 year’s apart!
