Decided to take an excursion to Locke yesterday as a Spring Break day trip. I had been wanting to go for a while after having learned about it through an episode of ‘California’s Gold’ or some other travel show. Locke, according to Wikipedia is, “also known as Locke Historic District, is an unincorporated community in California‘s Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta built by Chinese immigrants during the early 20th century. It was originally named Lockeport after George Locke, who owned the land that the town was built upon at a time when Chinese people were not allowed to own land. Locke is located in the primarily agricultural region south of Sacramento, California, near State Route 160. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and further was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1990 due to its unique example of a historic Chinese American rural community.” You can read more here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locke,_California or here http://www.locketown.com/. Upon exiting I-5 I was greeted by this:

which was nice; didn’t know the Delta had/needed them. A short while later I saw this:

I like old signs, plus this made me wonder if this was a chain, of restaurants not signs, as there is one near my work which is also near the Delta. More than likely though it was just a convenient way to name things in rural areas where road intersections with four corners were few and far between.
My plan was to eat here:

but it was closed. S’pose the ‘wrong way’ sign should’ve tipped me off…though the business hours sign indicated it should’ve been open. Hungry and craving Chinese food I wandered the tiny historic town…nothing was open except the biker bar which I figured wouldn’t have Chinese food as it advertised ‘Steak Dinners’. So I took a side trip to Isleton, CA to eat.
Craving satisfied I returned to Locke and snapped some pics. One of the first things to share is the monument/park which is guarded by these guys:

Looks like someone hippity-hopped by.

The monument is three sided.

Side two; at least from my perspective.
